Clinical standards and oversight
Care at Sober Living is delivered by a multidisciplinary team rather than a single counsellor, so every client’s plan reflects medical, psychological, family and wellness perspectives at once. Our model brings the Medical Director, Clinical Director, Lead Therapist, Family Counsellor and Wellness Coordinator together around each person in treatment.
- Shared case reviews. In our care model, the clinical team reviews each client’s progress together in regular case conferences. Therapists, medical staff and the family counsellor share what they are seeing, and the treatment plan is adjusted when needs change, for example when a mental-health symptom emerges or a family issue becomes a barrier.
- Medical oversight. Our Medical Director oversees detoxification protocols, medication management (including medication-assisted treatment and our Sublocade program) and physical health monitoring. During medical detox, clients are supervised 24 hours a day.
- Clinical leadership. The Clinical Director holds overall responsibility for the standard of care across all programming, while the Lead Therapist coordinates individual and group therapy, including trauma-informed CBT and DBT.
- Time for each person. We keep a low client-to-staff ratio so that therapy is individual, not a slot in a crowded schedule. See how this shapes treatment on our approach page.
Verifying credentials in Ontario
Every regulated health professional in Ontario appears on a free public register kept by their college, and we encourage families to check. Ask our admissions team, at any point in the intake process, for the name and registration details of any clinician who will be involved in care, then search the relevant register:
- Physicians: College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
- Nurses: College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Registered psychotherapists: College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
- Social workers: Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
- Psychologists: College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPO)
A register entry confirms whether someone is currently authorised to practise and shows any conditions on their practice. Asking is normal, and a reputable treatment centre should be comfortable answering.
How our content is reviewed
The same team that provides care also reviews what we publish. Medical pages are checked by our Medical Director, and therapy and mental-health pages by our Clinical Director or Lead Therapist, against Canadian clinical guidance from organisations such as Health Canada, CAMH and CCSA. Pages are reviewed at least every 12 months and show a “Last reviewed” date. Read the full editorial and clinical review policy, or contact our admissions team with any questions about who will be caring for you or your family member.
