Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is one of the most extensively researched and effective forms of psychotherapy, with strong evidence for treating not only addiction but mental health disorders as well. At Sober Living, it plays a key role in our treatment program.
CBT is based on the principle that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are all connected. When certain thought patterns start to become unhelpful it can drive difficult emotions and behaviours. With addiction this can lead to using substances or falling into old habits. Through CBT treatment you are able to recognise this and instead develop healthier alternatives.
In sessions you’ll learn practical skills consisting of thought monitoring and challenging, behavioural experiments, coping strategies for high-risk situations, problem-solving techniques, and relapse prevention planning. The skills learned in CBT are practical and easy to use and can be used long after treatment ends in your day to day life.
