Mindfulness therapy is all about slowing down and paying attention to what is going on inside you. Such as your thoughts, emotions and physical sensations. While allowing yourself to observe these aspects of yourself without judgement. At Sober Living, we use an array of mindfulness practices throughout our treatment programs because it has been known to help in not only addiction recovery but mental health treatment as well.
One of the ways we do this is with Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) which combines traditional relapse prevention strategies with mindfulness meditation practices. Through this you will be able to learn how to recognize the early stages of cravings and sit with the uncomfortable emotions. While also not reacting to them. Through this you will learn to make more conscious choices rather than falling into the automatic patterns of substance use.
We use practices such as guided meditation sessions, mindful movement (yoga and walking meditation), breathwork exercises, and body scan practices. Which help to calm the nervous system, reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, and enhance overall well-being.
The skills that are learned through mindfulness practice can be used for more than just addiction recovery. They can be used as lifelong tools for managing stress, improving relationships, enhancing focus, and living in an overall more present state.
